PREPARATION OF FLAME RETARDANT MOLDED POLYOLEFIN ARTICLE

PURPOSE:To obtain a molded article having high flame retardancy while remarkably inhibiting the deterioration of the mechanical characteristics, by incorporating a polyolefin with a polymer of a halogenated acenaphthylene in mixing the polyolefin with a hydrous metallic oxide powder. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. polyolefin is mixed with 80-250pts.wt. hydrous matellic oxide, e.g. aluminum hydroxide or calcium hydroxide, and at least 0.5pt.wt. polymer of a halogenated acenaphthylene containing units expressed by the formula[X is H, Cl or Br; Ym are Cl or Br; (m) is an integer 2-6; Rn are substituent group other than halogen; (n) is an integer 0-4; (m)+(n)<=6]as constituent elements. The resultant composition is then molded into a suitable molded article, which is subjected to the free radical generating treatment to give the aimed molded article.
