PURPOSE:To restrict the dendrite growth owing to the repeated charge and discharge operations in a zinc-bromine cell, by making the cell in an enclosed type and circulating an inert gas to a negative electrode side electrolyte tank keeping at a specific pressure through a switch valve. CONSTITUTION:By opening switch valves 18, 19, and the like in a discharge, or in a charge and discharge operation, the inert gas N2 in an N2 gas tank is circulated at a pressure of 1 to 3 atm through the electrolyte 8 in an electrolyte tank 10 at the negative electrode side, and the like. Therefore, the growth of dendrite produced in the repeated charge and discharge operations can be restricted by the partial concentration of the current density based on an uneven distribution of a product by the dissolved oxigen in the water of the electrolyte, whose electric resistance is higher than that of normal metals. By such an improvement of the even electrodeposition, the deterioration of the cell capacity owing to the growth of dendrite can be prevented. |
