Clear boles (1) flattened on four sides are fed in pairs to mutually opposite edge-cutting heads (2) which cut out the wanes (3) of the clear boles (1). The mutual distance of the edge-cutting heads (2) is adjustable during the working of a clear bole (1), so that a sideboard (6) having portions of different width results between the two cutouts (3).
