PURPOSE:To relieve a change in water pressure and to prevent the occurrence of cavitation, by a method wherein air is supplied into cooling water around a wet type cylinder liner through an air pump. CONSTITUTION:A forward end of an air feed port 12, formed in a cylinder block 13 and supplying air into cooling water, is inserted into a cooling water jacket 20 formed between a cylinder liner 11 and a cylinder block 13. The air feed port 12 is connected to an air path 14 branching from a suction path 10, and an engine-driven air pump 15 is located in the middle of the path 14. A check valve 16 for preventing reverse flow of cooling water from the feed port 14 and a relief valve 18, which recycles air to the upstream of the pump 15 through a path 17 when air pressure from the pump 15 exceeds a given value, are mounted to the air path 14 located at the downstream of the pump 15. With the pump 15 actuated, air is fed into cooling water through the feed port 12, and said air produces air bubbles to relieve a change in water pressure in the jacket 20. |
