<p>The process is for comparison of a repeated pattern on a running track (1) with one which is known. Light intensity or amounts in a number of adjacent part surfaces positioned across the track are probed by an appts. comprising a number of photodiodes (7) arranged breadthways in a row. The amount of light picked up by the photodiodes at a specific time is converted to an electrical voltage. This voltage is compared with one stored in a memory unit (9) and which was recorded with the same probing appts. for corresponding part surfaces of the known pattern. In the event of the comparison showing a deviation, an indication is given for determining the position of the part surface or surfaces where the difference has occurred.
