PURPOSE:To simplify work and to improve workability by the constitution wherein an insertion hole to be inserted with optical fibers so as to face each other, a pair of electrode insertion holes in a vertical direction and a hole for monitoring the position of strands are provided and the optical fibers are melt- stuck and connected by the electric discharge between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Optical fiber strands 14, 14' which are stripped of the cladding at the preceding ends of a pair of optical fibers 11, 11' to be connected are inserted into the hole 12 of a cylindrical connector 13 for optical fibers, and are stopped when the strands face each other in the connecting position. The insertion is operated under observation with a microscope through a hole 17 for monitoring the connection. A pair of electrodes 15, 15' are inserted into electrode insertion holes 16, 16' and electric discharge is generated therefrom to melt-stick the fibers, whereby the fibers are connected. If in the current conducting parts for generation of electric discharge, the outside shapes of the electrodes and the sizes of the bore shape of the electrode insertion holes in the aligning member are finished with good accuracy, the positioning of the electrodes during melting is easy and the connection work is carried out easily. |
