The binder contains by wt. 79-98.5% granulated blast furnace slag (A); 1-12% alkali cpd. (B); and 0.5-9% portland cement clinker, or Na2SO4 or K2SO4. The pref. binder contains either (1) 79-96% slag (A); 3-12% of Na2CO3, or K2CO3, or NaOH, KOH, NaF, KF, or sodium- or potassium-silicate; and 1-9% portland cement clinker; or, alternatively, (2) 89-98.5% slag (A); 1-10% sodium silicate; and 0.5-1.0% Na2SO4 or K2SO4. The binder can be used in mfg. concrete with high strength; and the concrete may contain steel reinforcement.
