PURPOSE:To improve the abrasion resistance of sliding surfaces by forming chrome films of high hardness contg. specific contents of oxygen on the surfaces of sliding members made of metals. CONSTITUTION:A Cr layer contg. 3-10% oxygen is formed on a base plate by a plasma melt spraying method using a raw material for plasma melt spraying wherein a proper content of Cr2O3 is compounded in Cr powder, whereby a target is formed. The above-mentioned Cr layer contg. 3-10% oxygen is formed by sputtering on the outside surfaces of sliding members such as piston rings by using such target. The Cr layer has 1,400-1,800 micro-Vickers hardness and the sliding surfaces having excellent abrasion resistance are formed. |
