A method for partially stripping the insulation of varnish-insulated wires, in the case of which method the wire (1) from which the insulation is to be stripped is passed through between two contact strips (7, 8) which are arranged at right angles to the wire (1) and consist of resistance material, and is clamped by said contact strips (7, 8) with the aid of electrode pairs (10, 11), the width of the contact strips (7, 8) corresponding to the desired length of insulation which is to be stripped off, and in the case of which, after clamping, the strips (7, 8) are heated in the region between the electrodes (by triggering a current pulse) to such an intensity that the varnish insulation on the wire (1) melts or is vaporised over the width of the contact strips (7, 8). <IMAGE>
