In an internal combustion engine an elastic, damping clutch is provided between a first drive shaft, especially the camshaft, subjected to torsional vibrations, impacts, slight displacement of the axes and misalignment, and a second drive shaft, aligning with the first, for driving small auxiliary units such as pumps, speed sensors or the like. At the same time, the first drive shaft (1) has a coaxial bore (4) open at the end, through which a set of flat leaf springs (5), held on both sides, passes centrally and transversely to the longitudinal axis of the drive shaft (1). With its clutch-side end (6), the diameter of which is approximately half that of the bore (4) in the first drive shaft (1), the second drive shaft (2) projects into the bore (4) of the first drive shaft and with parallel side faces (7, 8) of a transverse slot (9) emerging at the end overlaps the set of leaf springs (5) held in the bore (4) on both sides with slight clearance. <IMAGE>
