Bonding is effected by machining a groove in the plastic layer on each of the sides to be joined, into which is inserted a spring of electrically conducting element embedded in or coated with a thermoplastic, and pushing the compound body together and melting the thermoplastic coating by passing an electrical current through the element to bond the compound body. The process can be used to join the ends of two compound bodies each consisting of a plastic core and two metal covering layers. A thermoplastic rod with a heating wire embedded therein, or a plastic coated metal bar, can be used as the spring. |
