The invention relates to a line protection circuit breaker (1), which is suitable for use as a preliminary automatic circuit breaker which, apart from a latching mechanism (2), has at least two switching contact devices (3; 4, 22) of which at least one is provided with an arc extinguishing device and is arranged in a main current path (5), on the contacts of which switching contact devices (3; 4, 22) an undelayed trip device (6) acts without engaging on the latching mechanism, and having at least one delayed trip device (7), which is engaged with the latching mechanism (2), in a shunt path (8) which bridges one of the switching contact devices, the latching mechanism (2) being connected, such that it is engaged, to contacts of at least one switching contact device in the main path. It is provided that the contact of a switching contact device (3) in the main path (5) is held open by a current via the shunt path (8) until the final cut off occurs, in that a further undelayed trip device (13) is connected in the shunt path (8) and is operatively connected only to the switching contact device (3). <IMAGE>
