In a method for continuously desalinating sea water, the sea water is concentrated by using solar energy to obtain fresh water. During periods when solar radiation is sufficient, a chemical heat accumulator (1, 2) is charged. Said accumulator is discharged during the periods without sunshine and during the periods when the radiation is insufficient, with the use of an outer heat source at a lower temperature. The heat released during the charge into and the discharge from the chemical accumulator is used for the concentration of sea water, preferably by means of an evaporation installation (12) by expansion.
