1307193 Shaping sliding clasp fasteners S W SPINDLER 26 Aug 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 40156/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division E2] A process of making sliding clasp fastener elements comprises forming two filaments 1, 2 of thermoplastic material into generally regular, serpentine configurations as shown in Fig. 1, positioning them in anti-phase overlapping relationship, joining the filaments together by welding (e.g. ultrasonically) along the central longitudinal axis of the assembly forming engageable heads 9, 10, Fig. 4, in the welding operation, preferably by means of welding plates 12, 13, dividing the welded assembly along its central longitudinal axis to form two separate rows (one shown in Fig. 5) of fastener elements, and joining the rows of elements to supporting tapes 7, 8 either prior to or after division of the assembly. Preferably spacer members, e.g. wires 11, Fig. 4, are used during the welding operation to maintain the upper and lower parts of the elements spaced to enable engagement of the heads 9, 10. In addition or alternatively the filaments may be bent at 3<SP>1</SP> and 4<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, before welding. The filaments may be welded or sewn to the tapes (Fig. 6, not shown). |
