A height-adjustment device for head rests, the carrier of which has at least one rod-shaped support which extends in the direction of the height adjustment, is mounted in a longitudinally displaceable manner in a guide device in the backrest of the associated vehicle seat and can be moved by means of a driving device. The height-adjustment device has as force transmission element, coupling the support to the driving device, a flexible belt which can be moved in its longitudinal direction by means of the driving device and in the region of its two edge zones is guided in a guide in such a manner that it is capable of transmitting both pushing forces and also pulling forces to the support of the carrier of the head rest and thus is capable of adjusting the head rest both upwards and also downwards.
