The IC engine has an intake passage (5) communicating through an intake port(7) with the combustion chamber(9). It has a throttle valve(1c) in the intake passage, & a control valve(16) in the passage(15) between the throttle valve & the intake port. An auxiliary passage(22) has one end opening to the intake passage in the vicinity (21) of the intake port, through an opening directed toward the combustion chamber. the other end opens to the intake passage between the throttle & control valves. A spring closes the control valve under light-load engine operation.
