PURPOSE:To obtain a secure seal with less number of parts used by forming a V-shaped recess at a joint between an exhaust manifold and a catalyst container and by providing a V-shaped seal there so as to contact under pressure with the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:When a ''Monolith '' catalyst 1 is to be installed below an exhaust manifold 11, the flange of the exhaust manifold 11 and that of a catalyst container 6' are coupled with a bolt 17. A slope 13 is formed at the coupling edge of the exhaust manifold, and a slope 14 is likewise formed at the coupling edge of the catalyst container 6' so that a V-shaped groove 12 is formed by both slopes 13, 14. When a catalyst 1 is to be fixed, the catalyst 1 is placed on the step section in the container 6' through a cushion member 16, and a V-shaped seal ring 13 is inserted into the V-shaped groove 12, then the flange of the exhaust manifold 11 and the flange of the catalyst container 6' are coupled with each other to fix the catalyst. |
