An improved electron gun for use in a cathode ray tube, comprises a main focussing electron lens formed of three aligned grids and an acceleration electron lens preceding the main electron lens. The acceleration lens is disposed at such a position that the principal plane of the object space of the lens is located adjacent to the virtual object point of the outermost electron ray of the electron beam incident upon the lens. The length of the grids forming both lens are described.
