Title compds. I(R1 = H, halogen, lower alkyl, alkoxy; R2 = formly, lower alkoxy, anilino; R3 = H, acyl), exhibiting a blood cholesterol lowering activity and a blood coagulation-preventing activity, were prepd. by reducing or cyclizing compd. II(R4 = lower alkyl) or by hydrolyzing compd. III or by reacting the reactive derivs. of compd. IV with aniline or by acylating compd. V. Thus, a mixt. of 4-(2-formyl-6-methoxy phenoxy)-3-nitrobenzoic acid ether 145 g, Raney-nickel 60ml, dioxane 1.2 L, and ethanol 150ml was reduced catalylically by H2 gas to give 10,11-dihydro-4-methoxy dibenzo[b,f [1,4 oxazepine-8-carboxylic acid ether 96 g (m.p. 121-2≦̸C).
