PURPOSE:To obtain a novel phenolic cyan dye-forming coupler good in spectral absorption characteristics of the formed dye, high in resistance to light, heat, humidity, etc., good in color developability, sufficient in color developing sensitivity and density, small in loss of the dye even in an exhausted bleaching bath, and retained high in color developability even when benzyl alcohol is not added to a color developing soln. CONSTITUTION:A number of required characteristics are satisfied by a phenolic cyan coupler represented by general formulaeIand II in which R<1> and R<2> are alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, acyl, or heterocyclic, and they may link with each other to form a 5- or 6-membered ring; X stands for a hydrogen atom or a group releasable on reacting with the oxidized product of a color developing agent; and R<3> is a ballasting group. |
