PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of a picture quality due to the fact that a spacer is dispersed at random, and also to make thickness of a liquid crystal layer constant even in case of a liquid crystal display element having a large area. CONSTITUTION:On a laminated part of a two-level crossing part of a scanning side conducting electrode 8 and a signal side conducting electrode 9, an insulator 12 is laminated. As shown in a sectional drawing in case when a liquid crystal cell has been constituted by use of this substrate 11, a projecting part (spacer) 12 which has been formed on the lower side substrate 11 and has utilized the laminated part of an electric conductor contacts with the upper side substrate 11 and the substrate interval does not become narrow any more, therefore, the projecting part formed in that case makes the substrate interval constant, and accordingly, thickness of a liquid crystal layer becomes constant. Said spacer is not formed on a display picture element electrode but is formed on the part except the display picture element electrode, therefore, such a defect as an area of the display picture element becomes small by forming the spacer is not caused. Also, since it is formed at an equal pitch extending over the whole surface of a liquid crystal panel, a liquid crystal layer having uniform thickness extending over the whole surface can be obtained, even in case when it has been applied to a large-sized liquid crystal display element. |
