PURPOSE:To reduce the number of component parts of the automatic transmission by a structure wherein a hydraulic torque converter and a geared transmission are arranged non-coaxially and front wheels and rear wheels are respectively driven by means of the output shaft, both ends of which are extruded from both ends of the geared transmission by piercing therethrough. CONSTITUTION:The automatic transmission for four wheel drive consists of the hydraulic torque converter 3, the input rotating member and output rotating member of which rotate coaxially, the geared transmission 10, the input shaft and output shaft of which is parallel to the axis of output rotation and which has a plurality of speed change stages, a differential gearing 44 for fron wheel drive, which is connected to one end of the geared transmission 10, a drive shaft 48 for rear wheel axle, which is connected to the other end of the geared transmission 10, and a pair of clutches 51 and 52, which selectively drive said drive shaft 48 for rear wheel axle. Accordingly, because the rotating powers for driving the front and rear wheels are taken-off from both the ends of the output shaft piercing through the geared transmission 10, the number of component parts can be reduced as compared with that of component parts used in an automatic transmission containing a transfer device. |
