PURPOSE:To unnecessitate adjustment of the position of a steering wheel at each time of seating of the driver, by a method wherein the inclination angle of oscillation of the steering wheel can be adjusted, and the steering wheel is positioned respectively into an operating position and a retracted position which are stored in an electronic controller. CONSTITUTION:Three switches 32-34 placed at the right of the steering wheel 30 are for controlling the tilting angle of the steering wheel, wherein 32 is an up- switch, 33 is a down-switch, and 34 is an away-switch for resetting the steering wheel from an upper limit retracted position to the original operating position. A shaft 40a is fixed to a position, while a shaft 40b is connected to the shaft 40a by a universal joint 56 and capable of changing the vertical angle in the direction of an arrow B. In a circuit incorporating a one-chip microcomputer CPU as the electronic controller for the tilting mechanism 37, a photo-interrupter 63 detects the rotation of a motor, discriminates the position of the steering wheel 30 and automatically sets the steering wheel 30 into the reatracted position or the operating position. |
