PURPOSE:To prevent any separation of an active material, remove the short of a lead storage battery and the breakage of a separator which might be caused by the separation of a large matter from the separator, and increase the reliability of the battery by preventing the active material layer from touching the unexpanded smooth surface of an expanded grid, which is prepared by expanding a lead plate after the plate is provided with cuts. CONSTITUTION:In this structure, an active material 4 and an unexpanded part 2 are separated by providing a space between the part 2 and an active material layer which is formed on an expanded part, so that any contact between the surface of the smooth part 2 and the surface active layer 4 is prevented. Thus, both surfaces of the network consisting of bones 3 are coated with the material 4. Therefore, even when the material 4 partially separates from the bones 3, the layer 4 itself does not separate from the bones 3. Since the applied active material layer 4 does not reach the flat surface of the unexpanded part 2 as a rule, there exists a space 5 between the layer 4 and the part 2. An expanded-part opened cut does not necessarily become a completely straight line parallel to the longitudinal direction A to B of the unexpanded part 2. A large lump part of the layer 4 can be prevented from separating by making the length of the space 5 to be not less than 50% of the length of the part 2. |
