A quick change rotary tool or arbor holder, operable while rotating, comprises a sleeve 12 movable axially to move therwith tapered wedges (14) (Fig. 3, not shown) that force apart retaining members 26 to release the tool or arbor. The retaining members 26 are held in their release position by pawls 24 which are disengaged by the insertion of the next tool or arbor to be used. The members 26 are spring biased inwardly to engage surfaces 34 with surfaces 10 of driving pockets on the tool or arbor. The arbor (Fig. 4, not shown) includes a screwed in head (2) which co-operates with slots 8 to form the drive pockets and surfaces 10. The head (2) also bears down on a rubber plug (3) to frictionally grip an ejector pin (1). A relatively rotatable sleeve (5) having a groove (9) is provided for automatic tool changing grippers. |
