PURPOSE:To obtain a cation exchange resin which is uniformly sulfonated to the inside of the particles without crushing the particles, by sulfonating copolymer particles consisting of monomers such as styrene, divinylbenzene and (meth)acrylic acid, etc. CONSTITUTION:Monomers such as (A) styrene, (B) 0.8-55mol% based on styrene of divinylbenzene and (C) 2-20mol% based on styrene of (meth)acrylic acid and/or its lower alkyl ester are subjected to suspension polymerization, to give copolymer particles, which are sulfonated to give a cation exchange resin. The suspension polymerization is preferably carried out in the presence of a dispersion medium (water, etc.) in an amount to give 1-10 times that of the monomers, 0.1-5wt% based on the monomers of a dispersant (polyvinyl alcohol, etc.), and 0.01-15wt% based on the monomers of a polymerization initiator (benzoyl peroxide, etc.) at 50-90 deg.C for 3-30hr. |
