PURPOSE:To provide a compsn. for molding sand which can mitigate offensive odors during molding of molds or charging of molten metal by adding respectively prescribed ratios of thermosetting resins, vanillin or its residues to refractory particles of silica sand, etc., and mixing these by specifying the ratios of the vanillin, etc. with respect to the thermosetting resins. CONSTITUTION:1.5-4parts thermosetting resin such as a phenolic resin, a urea resin or the like, and 0.005-0.1 parts vanillin or vanillin residues are added and mixed to and with 100 parts refractory particles of silica sand, etc. As an essential requirement in this case, the ratio of the addition of the vanillin or vanillin residues with respect to 100 parts thermosetting resin is set at 0.1-4pts. The vanillin residues refer to the still residues in the formation of vanillin. The compsn. for molding sand consisting of the above-described compsn. mitigates offensive odors of formaldehyde, etc. during molding of molds or charging of molten metal, and prevent the degradation in working environment. |
