The invention relates to an automatic lathe with a chucking device for prismatic workpieces with polygonal profile, in which at least the collet inserted into the main work spindle has a star-shaped inner profile. In order to be able to feed the corners of the polygonal workpiece to the concave points of the star-shaped inner profile by means of an automatic feeding and magazine device attached to the machining side, the number of concave points of the inner profile (3b) of the collet is an integral multiple of the number of corners of the polygonal profile of the prismatic workpiece, and the chucking surfaces, parallel to the spindle axis, of the star-shaped inner profile are each connected to one another by guide surfaces which are formed in each case by a roof-edge shape tapering to a point in the opposite direction to the insertion direction of the prismatic workpiece. <IMAGE>
