For an actuating device which is arranged in a switching installation part (which is encapsulated without being pressurised) of a high-voltage or medium-voltage switching and distribution installation, is allocated to an earthing switch or to a short-circuiting switch, can be driven by a sensor (which, in the event of an interference arc (fault arc) responds to physical effects caused thereby in the encapsulated switching installation part) and can be tripped by suitable switching means, a pressure sensor (20) is provided as the sensor. This pressure sensor (20) is in the form of a part which is like a piston, like a folding bellows, like a corrugated tube or like a membrane and which, in the event of an interference arc, experiences a position change at least temporarily as a result of the gas pressure wave caused by said arc. This position change is coupled to at least one mechanical force transmission element (23) which, for its part, acts directly on the switching or locking mechanism of the earthing switch or of the short-circuiting switch, in the switching or tripping sense. <IMAGE>
