Texts in Korean characters are depicted in the form of syllables (S) which each consist of at least one opening consonant and at least one vowel. Additionally, one or more closing consonants may be present. In order to be able to recognise individual syllables (S) automatically with an input of the letters (B) on a telex machine, keys (T) for entering double opening consonants are provided on a keyboard (TA) provided for the input. After the input of a double opening consonant, a single consonant or the last one of two or three consonants, the beginning of a new syllable (S) is recognised and the preceding syllable (S) is closed. Provided in the telex machine is a memory (SP) in which the letters (B) of a syllable (S) are stored until the syllable is complete. <IMAGE>
