A short backfire antenna (aerial) is described which achieves circular-polarised symmetrical polar diagrams in the gain range from approximately 9 to 17 dB. The antenna consists of a combination of Archimedes' spirals with a resonant pot as the exciter, or a plurality of such exciters, and an open resonator as a short backfire reflector.
