The invention proceeds from a shielding arrangement for the storage, in particular the intermediate storage, and the transport of spent nuclear reactor fuel elements. The shielding arrangement consists of a transport and storage container made from cast iron (in particular spherulitic cast iron), and of a device for neutron shielding. The lateral surface of the flask has cooling ribs cast on externally. The device for neutron shielding consists of a cylindrical lateral surface which is mounted on the cooling ribs and forms cooling ducts together with the cooling ribs. In the region of the transport and storage flask base, the lateral surface of the cylinder has inlet openings for cooling air which provide the cooling ducts with cooling air. The cooling ducts are, of course, open at the top. As a result, the transport and storage flask can be produced in a substantially simpler way and be finished more easily than a transport and storage flask made from cast iron or cast steel, in which the device for neutron shielding consists of bores or ducts for neutron-absorbing or moderating material in the lateral surface of the flask. <IMAGE>
