A brake device is proposed which enables the energy released when a wheel is braked to be stored by means of a spring and fed back to the drive during acceleration. In the preferred embodiment a pair of rollers brought into partial or full friction contact with the wheel serves for this purpose, both shafts of which pair of rollers are connected to one another by gear wheels and tension a spring or can be driven by said spring, which is to be wound alternately around both shafts in opposite directions in each case. In braking, the spring is tensioned and when the braking is cancelled it is relaxed again.
