The invention is intended to simplify the construction of an electrical switch, especially for motor vehicles, which has a movable switching element, a contact link (which is held on the switching element with lateral play and is loaded by a compression spring) and four stationary contacts (which are connected to one another in an on position by the contact link), so that the required cost of parts and assembly is reduced. This is achieved in that the stationary contacts are arranged in pairs one behind the other (in series) and in that the contact link in the on position is located at two points in each case between the two stationary contacts belonging to a pair, has play (with respect to the switching element) at right angles to a connecting line between these two points and acts on the stationary contacts in a direction which is at an angle to the spring force.
