In this device, two transmitter/receiver units and at least one alarm transmitter are provided. The transmitter/receiver units are constructed for monitoring each other, by means of mutual control for signal exchange, in such a manner that in each transmitter/receiver unit, a signal received from the transmitter of the other unit is used for controlling the own transmitter for the transmission of a signal, if necessary after an adjustable or set delay time. The signal received from the transmitter of the other unit is also used for deleting a precontrol for the alarm transmitter or to prevent the alarm transmission in another manner. If the distance between the persons or objects to be monitored becomes greater than the range of the transmitter of one of these units, the mutual transmitting connection is broken. Thus, the control for suppressing the alarm transmission also disappears, in other words, the alarm transmitter is released for transmitting an alarm. By constructing the transmitter/receiver units from microcomponents, the transmitter/receiver units can be easily attached, for example to items of clothing or jewellery such as wristwatch straps, watch cases and the like. The monitoring device can be used virtually universally, for example for persons, especially small children, for animals, for objects of value and the like.
