The invention relates to an apparatus in which sheet-like structures consisting of textile thermoplastic materials are thermally separated by electrically heated incandescent wires. The apparatus serves for separating synthetic lace, for example even scalloped Raschel lace in lace ribbons and for separating and trimming material inner and outer edges of thermoplastic sheet-like structures, for example woven fabrics. The aim of the invention is to reduce the quality defects on the textile sheet-like structures produced during the separating operation, to increase the work productivity of the apparatus and to restrict the odour nuisance as well as harmful effects for the operator. The invention is based on the object of technically redesigning the incandescent wire to reduce significantly the accumulation of residues or degradation products on the incandescent wire and to increase the stability of the incandescent wire. According to the invention, the incandescent wire is provided with a non-stick coating, is designed in an angled-off or arcuate manner or is under the effect of an axial tensile force.
