The invention is used in the production of wire rod. The aim is to accelerate the separation and removal of the wire rod in coil collecting shafts. The object is to provide a separating device, having simple construction, simple control, uncomplicated maintenance and with which blade replacement can be carried out rapidly, which permits the reliable catching and the cutting of only one wire winding in a short time without the wire ends being able to catch in the collecting shaft, the collecting shaft being free to continue the collecting or dropping process of the wire windings directly after the cut. This object is achieved in that a catch lever, mounted via a connection rod in the cassette table and provided with a blade which, fastened in the arc of the front end which is bent in a hook-like manner, can be brought into cutting position with a counter blade disposed fixedly on the inner ring of the rotatable annular disc, is articulated via a vertically disposed rotational axis to an annular disc which is connected so as to be rotatable to a section of the shaft surface which is fastened in a cassette which can be inserted and retracted. <IMAGE>
