A broadcast sowing method and an appliance for carrying out this method are presented. According to the invention, the seed is deposited into the ground by first and second broadcast seed coulters, for example duckfoot coulters, the first broadcast seed coulters producing known seed strips, whilst the second broadcast seed coulters are arranged behind the first broadcast seed coulters in the sowing direction and cover completely with seed the grain-free ground stripes left behind by the first broadcast seed coulters.
