The mechanism is intended for placing a road gritting (28) container (27) or the like on a truck (10) load deck (11), or on the ground. It comprises a frame with four telescopically adjustable uprights (5-8), supporting two parallel carrier rails (1,2) spaced to receive the width of the deck and support wheels (30,31) laterally projecting (32,37;33,38) from the container. Each rail has a front portion (21,23), upwards inclined (H) to a horizontal portion (17,19). It connects to a higher (H) horizontal rear portion (18,20) via a further incline (22,24). The wheel base (L) equals the distance (A) between the inclines (21,22;23,24), and their vertical distance equals that between the horizontal portions (17,18;19,20).
