PURPOSE:To increase the effective area of a sail without causing any hindrance in a field of vision by installing additional small sails at the bottom of original sails mounted on a ship, leaving gaps, that are required for said field of vision, between the original sails and the additional sails. CONSTITUTION:Masts 1 and 2, are mounted on a ship 3, being allowed free horizontal swing, and they, 1 and 2, are provided with sails 4 and 5. At the lower part of the masts 1 and 2, small sails 6 and 7, are installed, providing gaps h and h', measured downward from the bottom of sails 4 and 5, respectively which are necessary for viewing from a steering room 21. (angle of vision : theta). The original sails 4 and 5, as well as the small sails 6 and 7, are hoisted or lowered by means of a wire rope. |
