Sheets are fed to a reciprocating carriage 27 along a guide 28. The leading edge of a fed sheet engages the nip between a freely rotatable roller 32 and the carriage surface. As the carriage moves forward (to the right in this figure) the sheet is engaged by the nip and feeds on to the carriage surface. Thereafter, as the carriage returns, the sheet is engaged by a nip between the surface and roller 34. This roller is either prevented from rotating or is caused to rotate against the surface motion during carriage return, so the sheet is ejected into tray 36. |
