Mixtures of water-soluble fibres, or fibres which can be rendered soluble with water or aq. liquids, which shrink on wetting with water, e.g. PVA fibres pref. shrinking at 25% of their original lenth on wetting with water at room temp. or with warm water at 40-60 degrees C within 2-60 (5-20) secs., are made into non-woven random webs, soaked with water or aq. liquids, and set by drying at raised temps., opt. under moderate press., to form crepe-structured felts useful for decorations, fancy dress partly costumes, artificial flowers, etc. Set fibre-structure may be impregnated with water-miscible esp. still soluble synthetic, e.g. aldehye-and/or ketone resins. Further condensation of pre-condensates or condensate intermediates applied forms water-proof structures, resistant to washing, boiling and dry-cleaning agents. |
