Stratified complex metal silicates, contg. repeating units of formula: (1 - x)M(a) + xM (b) n (OH)4Si2O5. wH2O, where M and M are monovalent or higher valency metal cations from Gps. I, II, III, IVB, VB, VIB, VIIb and/or VIII, which have an effective ion radius of 0.5-1 angstroms, x = 0-1 and is the atomic fraction of M and M, a is the valency of M, b is the valency of M, n is a number given by the ratio 6: a(1 - x) + box and w = 0-4, are prepd. by forming an aq. reaction mixt. contg. SiO2 and a metal cation corresponding to M, and having pH is not 10, and reacting this mixt. at increased temp. and press., so that SiO2 and the metal cations are combined with oxygen and OH ions, and the silicate is formed. |
