Concave rails, upon which a pipe which is to be treated by at least partial immersion can be placed are fixed in the bottom of a furnace which contains a treatment bath M. In order to guarantee that the pipe is immersed over the whole of its cross section and in order to eliminate the risk of it becoming oval, the furnace is subjected to alternating rotation about its longitudinal axis, which compels the pipe to turn on itself by rolling on the rails. The pipe is handled by arms which are assembled in a pivoting manner on the external wall of the furnace and controlled by an actuator.
