PURPOSE:To produce alcohol by culturing yeast belonging to Kluyveromyces genus, etc. and capable of assimilating xylose and/or cellobiose to alcohol. CONSTITUTION:Yeast belonging to Kluyveromyces, Candida or Kloechera genus and capable of assimilating xylose and/or cellobiose to alcohol, e.g. Kluyveromyces cellobiovorus TM193 (NRRL Y-12509) is inoculated and cultured in a medium containing one or more carbon sources selected from xylose, cellobiose, cellulose, and hydrolyzed product of a hemicellulose-containing material. |
