PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical octane value of an engine by controlling the temperature of the cooling water flowing through the water jacket of a cylinder head and that flowing through the water jacket of a cylinder block individually. CONSTITUTION:When a cylinder head 2 and a cylinder block 3 are cooled by the cooling water flowing through individual water jackets WJ4, 5 the cooling water discharged by a water pump 4 flows into WJ4 through an inlet port 6 and flows into a radiator 10 from an outlet port 8 through a conduit 9, and the cooling water cooled here is next fed back to the water pump 7 in circulation through a conduit 13. On the other hand, the cooling water in WJ5 is connected to WJ4 through a connecting passage 14, and the cooling water in WJ5 flows within WJ5 by natural convection. Then, when the temperature of the cooling water in WJ5 rises and the pressure increases, the cooling water in WJ5 is combined in circulation with the cooling water in WJ4 through a connecting passage 15. |
