PURPOSE:To raise sensitivity and maximum density, and to reduce fog, by bringing a photosensitive material containing a gelatin or a gelatin derivative as a binder into close contact with a water-impermeable layer and heat developing it. CONSTITUTION:A heat-developable photosensitive layer containing an organic acid silver salt, a photosensitive silver halide, a reducing agent, and a gelatin and/or gelatin derivative binder is imagewise exposed, and then, a sheet material made of material impermeable to water or a resin-coated paper or the like sheet material having a water-impermeable layer is overlaid on the surface of the photosensitive layer, and they are heat developed while being kept in close contact. Alternatively, the surface of a heating drum is made of a water-impermeable material, and the photosensitive layer is brought into close contact with the heating drum to execute heat development, thus permitting loss of water from the gelatin to be prevented, the gelatin to be softened by this water, and therefore, development to be accelerated.
