Apparatus for relieving tensile stress along welded seams in plastic containers such as battery jars. In the apparatus, the container (18) is supported on an adjustable table (16) mounted on a main frame (12). A roller assembly (20) is mounted on a carriage (14) supported on rails for sliding movement by a cylinder (60) and drive rod (58). The roller assembly (20) includes pairs of arms (70, 74) each mounting a respective roller (90, 110) which are arranged to advance over portion of the welded seam when the container wall is between the rollers (90, 110). One roller (90) is fixed and the other roller (110) is arranged to rock on a rocking element (104) under the control of an actuating rod (98) to apply selected pressure to the seam as the carriage (14) advances with the roller assembly (20). |
