PURPOSE:To obtain a greater demagnatizing effect by a method wherein a demagnetizing magnetic field whose magnetic field is gradually decreasing in magnitude with its polarity being alternately reversed is applied to steel material to be demagnetized from its peripheral direction and simultaneously the steel material to be demagnetized is moved in the peripheral directon. CONSTITUTION:Steel material is being supported by a turning roller, whereas a pair of magnetic poles of each U-shaped magnet are positioned along the peripheral direction of the steel material. By the turning roller, the steel material is turned at a predetermined low speed of V and whereby a first demagnetizing cycle is first carried out at a mesh of m. Subsequently, demagnetizing cycles are repeated at meshes of m2, m3. For each demagnetizing mesh, while at least one demagnetizing cycle is being fully completed, a series of demagnetizing meshes are applied to the steel material 1, which will be completely demagnetized if three regions completely demagnetized are so arranged that they are linked together on the periphery of the steel materials 1. |
