<p>In disinfecting waste water by treatment with ozone, the new feature is that a salt soln. (A), contg. iodide, chloride or esp. bromide ions, is added to the water to be treated to provide a halide ion concn. at least 50 mg per l. Esp. the vol. ratio of (A): water is 1:1-100 and (A) is esp. an industrial waste soln. or sea water. (A) can be added before or during ozone treatment. Addn. of saline soln. increases the efficiency of ozone and reduces both the contact time (up to 75%) and the amt. of ozone needed (5-60%). Also the amt. of ozone lost from the treatment column is reduced and more consistent results are achieved.</p> |
